10 Photography Goals for 2022!

It’s the time of the year that I sit down, reflect and do a bit of plan­ning to set the right tone for the new year. I have been busy com­ing up with my goals for 2022, and while doing so, I’ve put togeth­er 10 pho­tog­ra­phy goals for 2022, just for you!

Set­ting goals in your pho­tog­ra­phy is key to suc­cess. That’s why I’ve put these 10 pho­tog­ra­phy goals for 2022 togeth­er in hopes that it helps inspire you all just a lit­tle bit.

10 Photography Goals for 2022

Goal #1‑Learn to shoot in manual!

On the top of the list for my 10 Pho­tog­ra­phy Goals for 2022, just like every year is to learn to shoot in man­u­al mode. 

Do you look at your pho­tos and think that they look flat? Do you want to step it up? Do you want to make your pho­tos POP? Then learn­ing to shoot man­u­al is key! I know that you may be ner­vous, intim­i­dat­ed, or even scared to turn that dial to M, but I promise you that once you take con­trol of your cam­era, you will nev­er look back.

And I also promise you that it is not as dif­fi­cult as it may seem! Come join my Begin­ners Pho­tog­ra­phy Essen­tials Class, and let me help you mas­ter the very most impor­tant skill that you can mas­ter as a photographer!

Goal #2‑Print your photos!

Gone are the days of print­ing every sin­gle pho­to you take. Real­ly, you prob­a­bly print very few of your pho­tos. Well, next on the 10 pho­tog­ra­phy goals for 2022 needs to be to print your pho­tos month­ly! At the end of each month, take a minute to look back at what you’ve shot. 

Find your favorites and have them print­ed. It does­n’t mat­ter if it’s 2 or 25 images; print your pho­tos, frame them and be proud. Then at the end of the year, you can also look back to see how far your pho­tog­ra­phy has come!

Goal #3‑Avoid spending money on more gear!

Let this year be the year you don’t stress hav­ing big­ger and bet­ter equip­ment. Focus on learn­ing how to take the best pho­tos with the gear that you’ve got. Remem­ber the saying…a great pho­tog­ra­ph­er can take a fan­tas­tic pho­to with aver­age equipment. 

Goal #4‑Find a community!

I can’t stress this one enough. Num­ber 4 on my 10 pho­tog­ra­phy goals for 2022 is to find a com­mu­ni­ty. Hav­ing a sup­port­ive com­mu­ni­ty is not only fun but will help you grow as a pho­tog­ra­ph­er. Whether it’s a Face­book Group like my Learn Pho­tog­ra­phy with Dena group or anoth­er resource, add find­ing a com­mu­ni­ty to your to-do list.

Goal #5‑Decide your intentions for your photography!

Goal #5‑Decide if you want to go pro or if it’s a hob­by! Set­ting this goal ear­ly on can make things eas­i­er. Do you want to use your pho­tog­ra­phy to cap­ture your kid’s activ­i­ties and your lives? Or do you want to use your pho­tog­ra­phy as a busi­ness? If you said the lat­ter, make 2022 your year to go professional. 

Goal #6‑Find a photography project!

If you want to make sure to keep your cam­era in your hands this year, then find a pho­tog­ra­phy chal­lenge. I am putting on a great Project 52 again this year.  Come join us and see how this project can real­ly push your photography!

Goal #7‑Organize your photos!

Jan­u­ary is the time to get every­thing orga­nized, so you start your year off right. Why not add your pho­tos to your orga­ni­za­tion list? I’ve put togeth­er some great tips on the basics of get­ting your images togeth­er. You can check it out here. 

Goal #8‑Enter a photography contest!

I’ve had 2 of my stu­dents enter pho­tog­ra­phy con­tests this year, and they both placed! And one even had their pho­to added to a cal­en­dar. Push­ing your­self out of your com­fort zone is essen­tial in help­ing you as a pho­tog­ra­ph­er grow. It does­n’t mat­ter if you come in first or don’t even place. It’s all about growing!

Goal #9‑Be on the other side of the camera!

Let this year be the year you are the sub­ject. Get­ting your pho­to pro­fes­sion­al­ly tak­en is not only good for busi­ness; every­one needs a good head­shot, but it’s a great way to see how your clients or sub­jects feel dur­ing your shots. It can help you learn what to do and not do dur­ing your sessions.

Goal #10-Create a photography ‘bucket list’!

I’ve been a pho­tog­ra­ph­er for over twen­ty years, and my buck­et list is con­stant­ly chang­ing. I scratch one thing off and add anoth­er. It helps push your pho­tog­ra­phy and pre­vents you from stag­nat­ing as a photographer. 

That’s why #10 on my 10 pho­tog­ra­phy goals for 2022 is to cre­ate a pho­tog­ra­phy buck­et list. Sit down with a blank piece of paper and a pen and start writ­ing. Then as the year goes by, see how many things you can cross off the list.
