When your cam­era is in Auto mode, AV mode or any mode oth­er than man­u­al, it decides how your pho­tographs will turn out, but when you are under­stand­ing man­u­al mode and choos­ing your set­tings, YOU are decid­ing how you want your pho­to to turn out.

I under­stand that this may be tempt­ing and that chang­ing that dial to M is scary, espe­cial­ly if you are just begin­ning in pho­tog­ra­phy, but it does­n’t have to be.
